KELLOGG — Bonners Ferry wrestlers enjoyed some success at the 16-school George Wild Invitational tournament last weekend at Kellogg High School.

Led by Kyle Smith’s first-place finish at 152 pounds, the Badgers finished third as a team, piling up 167 points to finish comfortably ahead of the host Wildcats (132). Perennial 5A state power Post Falls won the tournament with 291 points, and Intermountain League rival Timberlake was second with 206.5 points.

Smith used three pins and a major decision to win his weight class, finishing things off with a pin of Post Falls’ Ethan Miller in 3:23.

Teammate Eli Richards also made his weight-class championship, pinning his first three opponents at 160 before falling to Timberlake’s Caleb Miller for a second-place finish.

The Badgers had four third-place finishers: Evan Barajas (132 pounds), Chas Maas (138), Andrew Sandelin-Macintosh (195) and Shaylynn Richards, in the girls’ A division.

Marcus Regehr (126) and Manuel Naccarato (145) took fourth for Bonners Ferry.

The Badgers wrestle next on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 20-21, at the Tri-State Invitational event at North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene.
