BONNERS FERRY — On Saturday, Jan. 6, Spokane hosted the Northwest Open, Gi and no-Gi Jiu-Jitsu Championship.

Members of Team Sylvio Behring USA from Bonners Ferry joined other team members from Montana and had a spectacular showing. The team placed second overall in the tournament. Coaches Brandon Olsen, Sam Brown, and Tanner Weisgram were thrilled with the results and wanted to congratulate the competitors and all of the teammates that helped them prepare.

The team brought 16 competitors to the tournament and 14 of them placed in the top 3 of their brackets, many even winning gold medals in multiple brackets. In the overall results for the tournament, the team took second place. This is no small feat, especially for a team from a small town. Below is a list of the results from the tournament.

Youth competitors

5 year old Sam Brown Jr. Placed second

6 year old Marley Olsen placed first in Gi and first in no-Gi

8 year old Benjamin Hollabaugh placed third

10 yr old Sofia Brown placed first

10 year old Levi Doyle placed fourth in Gi and fourth in No-Gi

11 year old William Hollabaugh placed fourth

15 year old Dean Glazer placed first

15 year old Declan Pauly placed third

15 year old Daniel Foster placed fourth

16 year old Connor Hernandez placed first in No-Gi and second in Gi

Adult Competitors

Simon Doyle placed first in Gi and first in No-Gi
