BONNERS FERRY — The Lady Badgers basketball team competed in its first game of the season on Nov. 17 and earned a nonconference win over visiting St. Maries, 53-42.
During warm ups, the teams sized each other up.
“They ran three different defenses early in the game and I’m sure we were a little nervous, so it took us a while to get going offensively,” said coach Travis Hinthorn.
The Badgers were led offensively by senior Kadi Bateman who scored a game-high 26 points, including all 10 of the team’s points in the first quarter. Bateman also contributed 8 rebounds, 7 steals and 3 assists.
Miranda Wenk also filled up the stat sheet with 9 points, 18 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 blocks.
“Miranda was all over the place. She dominated the boards and dove on the floor numerous times for loose balls, finishing the game with 18 rebounds, which was awesome,” Hinthorn said.
“It was a great start to this season, there was a big crowd and we got a win,” he added. “It was also nice to play a game instead of just practice so we can see what we need to work on. Now we will work on those things and continue to improve and focus on Clark Fork next Tuesday.”
