Marilyn June Hintze

Marilyn June Hintze, 88, passed away Nov. 19, 2017, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, following a brief illness.

She was born March 9, 1929, in Wausau, Wis., to Ewald and Esther Ziebell, and was the oldest of three siblings that included her brothers Richard and Roger Ziebell. She helped her parents at the grocery store they owned in Wausau, and graduated from Wausau High School.

Marilyn married Raymond Hintze on Sept. 6, 1947, in Wausau. They raised eight children, moving frequently because of Rayís job with A & P Grocery. They later owned their own grocery store in Scales Mound, Ill. The family moved to Bergland, Mich., in the early 1970s, where they also owned and operated a grocery store.

When the last of their children were finishing high school, Marilyn went back to school and earned a degree in licensed practical nursing at Gogebic Community College in Ironwood, Mich. She worked as an LPN for a number of years at the Woodland Manor in Woodruff, Wis. Marilyn and Ray retired to the Woodruff/Minocqua, Wis., area in the mid-1980s. After Ray passed away in 1987, Marilyn operated a daycare center in her home for many years.

Known affectionately by her family as ďGrandma Nan,Ē Marilyn had a special bond with children. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were some of her happiest days. She had a nurturing, soothing demeanor that could calm a crying child in an instant.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marilyn was also a prolific knitter who made hundreds and hundreds of pairs of mittens and socks through the years. Her Christian faith was an important part of her life, and she faithfully attended the Lutheran church.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband Ray, and a great-grandchild, Isaac.

She is survived by her eight children: Tim (Lynnette) Hintze of Whitefish, Mont., Tom (Mary) Hintze of Bergland, Mich., Terry (Katie) Hintze of Arlington, Wash., Ted (Patty) Hintze of Fremont, Mich., Cindy (Scott) Davis of Marshalltown, Iowa, Diane (Robert) Blanford of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Patty Karpinski of St. Paul, Minn., and Sharon Hintze of Bonners Ferry; 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; brothers Richard (Nancy) and Roger (Jane) of Wausau; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., at Peace Lutheran Church, 10868 Old 51 N. in Arbor Vitae, Wis. Her final resting place will be at Restlawn Cemetery in Wausau.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Marilyn Hintze Memorial Fund, in care of Peace Lutheran Church, which will provide assistance to families in need.

Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint, Idaho, is caring for the family. Please visit Marilynís online memorial at www.lakeviewfuneral.com and sign her guest book.
